About

Alyph Academy publishes free structured courses in the classical Islamic sciences. It charges nothing, enrols no one, grants no degrees, and carries no advertising.

How a lesson is made

  • The text is fixed first. A specific printed edition is chosen and recorded — editor, publisher, year, page — so a reader can open the same page we did.
  • The translation is our own. Classical Arabic texts are public domain; modern English translations are copyrighted work belonging to their translators. We translate rather than reprint, and we say so on the page.
  • A named scholar reviews it. Their name and the review date appear on the lesson. Until that happens, the lesson says it has not been reviewed — plainly, in the same place the reviewer’s name would go.
  • Where scholars disagree, we say so rather than flattening the tradition into one voice. Where a popular story is weakly attached to a text, the lesson notes it.
  • Corrections are public. Every one is logged with the date and what changed.

Where this is up to

Two courses are open: the forty-two hadith of al-Nawawī, and al-Ājurrūmiyya in thirty lessons, the grammar taught on the hadith themselves. Both are early. The Resources shelf records the editions the lessons rest on. There is no video yet and no donation page yet. The corrections log is open and empty.

Money

We are not taking donations. Alyph Academy is being incorporated as a Michigan nonprofit and will apply for 501(c)(3) recognition. Until that is done we are not asking anyone for money — not because we do not need it, but because you should be able to give to a real organisation with real accounts and a real board, and get a real receipt.

If you want to hear when it launches, write to hello@alyphacademy.org. One email at launch, nothing else, never passed on.
